Sweden Prevails In Tunisia

TUNIS, February 5, 2017

Sweden wins the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Zone II Africa/Europe first round tie against Tunisia 3-2. The guest team started into Sunday’s singles reverse rubbers with a 2-1 lead and sealed victory in the final encounter.

First up at the Tennis Courts of Cité Nationale Sportive El Menzah in Tunis was local favourite Malek Jaziri. The World No. 51 eased past Patrik Rosenholm 6-3, 6-3, 6-1, winning 74 per cent of his first service points. Jaziri closed the match out after two hours and four minutes to push the tie the distance.

In the fifth rubber, however, Isak Arvidsson fought back and overcame 19-year-old Mohamed Aziz Dougaz 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. The World No. 569 from Bastad fired 11 aces and converted nine of his 29 break point opportunities to prevail in four hours and 11 minutes.

Sweden will next play Turkey in the second round, which will be held from 7 to 9 April 2017. Tunisia will face Cyprus in the Play-Offs of the Zone II Africa/Europe, taking place the same week.
