John Millman and Michael Mmoh will compete in Sunday’s final of the $75,000 Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships held on hard courts at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Center in Lexington.
Millman breezed through Cameron Norrie from Great Britain 6-1, 6-1 in the first semi-final on Saturday. The 28-year-old Australian looked spectacular on court all day, moving extremely well and serving at a high rate, as he closed out the match in one hour and one minute. Millman served at 77 percent in the match and only faced four break points all match. Millman won the 2015 Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships.
Mmoh rallied from a second-set loss to win the third set over fellow US-American Raymond Sarmiento 6-2 in the third. The match was tight all the way, with the opening set decided by a tiebreak, it which Mmoh led 6-0 at one point – but a Sarmiento rally put the lead at 6-4 before Mmoh served out the opening frame. In the second set, Sarmiento got two breaks of serve – but couldn’t hold on in the third as Mmoh booked his spot in the finals on Sunday with a 7-6, 1-6, 6-2 win in one hour and 56 minutes.
Mmoh and Millman will meet for the first time.
In the doubles finals, Alex Bolt and Max Purcell from Australia defeated Tom Jomby of France and Eric Quigley from the United States 7-5, 6-4 in two sets as Bolt and Purcell broke in the last game of both sets to win the match. The final lasted 66 minutes.
