CARY, September 16, 2017
An all-US-American singles semi-final is set for Saturday afternoon at the $50,000 Atlantic Tire Championships, as Kevin King will take on sixth seed Noah Rubin at Cary Tennis Park.
Both Rubin and King won their quarterfinal matches on Friday in straight sets. Rubin took advantage of Christian Garin’s second serve, winning 61 per cent of those points. The 21-year-old from Long Island sealed a 6-4, 6-2 victory in 66 minutes. King edged past Facundo Mena of Argentina 7-6, 6-4 in one hour and 29 minutes.
The other semi-final match will feature Marcelo Arevalo and Cameron Norrie. Arevalo defeated the tournament’s No. 5 Mitchell Krueger from United States 6-3, 6-0 in one hour and 15 minutes. The 26-year-old from El Salvador, straight from his singles and doubles titles in the Bogota Challenger last week, will have the chance to repeat the feat as he plays in the doubles semi-finals as wells. Arevalo and his partner, Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela, will take on the No. 1 team of Austin Krajicek and Jackson Withrow.
Norrie beat seventh favourite Mackenzie McDonald from the United States 6-1, 6-3, leaving Noah Rubin the only seeded player in the stage of the final four. The 22-year-old Briton finished the encounter in one hour and 10 minutes.
