STUTTGART, May 17, 2018

The MercedesCup, which made the switch from clay to grass from 2015, opens the extended grass-court swing alongside the Libéma Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The ATP 250 event will be held from 9 to 17 June 2018 at the Tennis Club Weissenhof in Stuttgart.

The first edition of the tournament in Stuttgart was held in 1898, with Mercedes-Benz assuming the role of title sponsor in 1979. There’s always an added incentive for the players to win the tournament as the champion takes home a new Mercedes-Benz. This year it will be a brand new CLS 450 4MATIC Coupé, which was announced by the rganizers at Jaz Hotel Stuttgart earlier in the week. The winner will also receive €117,030 in prize money.

Federer to start grass-court swing

The tournament will be headlined by the return of Roger Federer, who will compete in his first tournament since March. Just like last season, the World No. 1 has skipped the complete clay-court season focusing completely on the upcoming grass tournaments.

“The atmosphere at TC Weissenhof is amazing. You immediately feel that this club is full of life. The fans get really going during the matches. On grass, my expectations are naturally high, so, I’m looking forward to once again playing in Stuttgart”, said the 97-times ATP tournament winner Federer, who has yet to lift the trophy in Stuttgart.

Tickets can also be purchased through the online shop at the tournament website
