ABU DHABI, December 24, 2018 (MWTC Press Release)
Abu Dhabi is gearing up to host the Mubadala World Tennis Championship (MWTC) from 27th – 29th December 2018 and organisers, FLASH entertainment, have doubled sponsors, a clear signal of the increasing popularity and importance of the Championship in the UAE and the region.
Continuing its long-standing partnership is Mubadala Investment Company, who once again returns as the title sponsor of the tournament. Mubadala’s commitment to the Championship also includes the Mubadala Community Cup presented by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi – and these community initiatives have played a key role in the development of the game in the UAE, as well as encouraging young people to get into sport.
Returning for the third time this year is German automotive manufacturer Mercedes Benz, who is the Official Vehicle Sponsor. Fans can keep an eye out for the eye-catching vehicles which will transport the players and officials during their stay in Abu Dhabi. Scottish supplier of bottled water Highland Spring, who recently announced a 100% recycled bottle, will be the Official Water supplier for the second year running.
Making their debut this Championship as supporting partner is state-owned oil company Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), will be the Support partner while Swiss luxury watchmaker, Richard Mille will be the Official Timekeeper for the tournament. Not only are its products designed to be worn in the most extreme of conditions, by the most extreme of athletes, but the brand is also a sponsor of MTWC participant and world number two, Rafael Nadal, for over eight years – and MWTC is delighted to have them on board.
The 11th Edition of the Championship will also include a further two new sponsors – Gatorade, who will be joining as the Official Sport Hydration Drink Partner and will support the players to stay hydrated and help improve their performance.
Last but not least, Saadiyat Rotana will be the Official Hotel Partner and will look after the accommodation needs of the tournament officials, while Wilson, who is renewing their 10-year association, will be the Official Ball and Racquet partner.
John Lickrish, CEO of Flash Entertainment commented: “This year’s MWTC features one of the best-ever player line-ups we have ever seen – and is indicative of how the tournament has gone from strength-to-strength in the region – something we are very proud of. We’re incredibly grateful for all the support our sponsors have and do give us – and we’re delighted to be welcoming back our regular sponsors, as well as working with new ones this year, all of whom will contribute to an unforgettable three days of tennis action and entertainment.”
This year’s MWTC lineup sees six top male players that include world number one and 14-time Grand Slam Champion Novak Djokovic, world number two and 17-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal, alongside last year’s defending MWTC champion, Kevin Anderson, French Open finalist, Dominic Thiem, Australian Open semi-finalist Hyeon Chung and recent Paris Masters Champion, Karen Khachanov. They will also be joined by tennis’ most famous siblings, Serena and Venus Williams.
