Christopher O’Connell clinched his maiden crown on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning the 2019 Acqua Dolomia Serena Wines Tennis Cup – Internazionali del FVG in Cordenons. The 25-year-old Australian defeated Jeremy Jahn of Germany in Sunday’s singles final at the Eurosporting Complex by the score of 7-5, 6-2.
Both players appeared in their first title match but O’Connell was the dominant player right from the beginning. The World No. 313, who missed the majority of last year’s season due to a knee injury and entered the €46,600 clay-court tournament with his ITF-Ranking, capitalized on five of his 14 break point chances to seal victory in one hour and 29 minutes.

“Winning a Challenger a year after the injury is great,” O’Connell said. “It feels like a new beginning and I hope to that I will stay healthy and continue my good form.”
The 25-year-old Sydney native takes away from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP-Ranking points, climbing up almost 100 positions on Monday. O’Connell will stay in Italy for another week competing in the Internazionali Di Tennis Citta’ Dell’Aquila.
