NOVENTI OPEN Cancelled Due To COVID-19 Concerns

HALLE, April 2, 2020

In the course of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the cancellation of the entire grass-court season announced by the ATP on Wednesday, the 2020 NOVENTI OPEN in Halle will not proceed as scheduled. Germany’s biggest grass-court event was scheduled to take place on June 15 to 21.

“It is very unfortunate that the tournament has been cancelled. However, given the current situation, there is no alternative,” tournament director Ralf Weber explains in a press relase. “At this moment we would also like to thank all partners, sponsors and helpers for their understanding and solidarity. We are all now looking to the year 2021, in which our 28th tournament will be held.”

The ATP 500 event will then take place inside the OWL ARENA in Halle/Westfalen from June 12 to 20, 2021.

The NOVENTI OPEN is one of eight grass-court events on the calendar and was re-categorised as an ATP 500 tournament in 2015. The event has crowned six German winners since its inaugural edition in 1993: Michael Stich (1994), Nicolas Kiefer (1999), David Prinosil (2000), Tommy Haas (2009 & 2012), Philipp Kohlschreiber (2011) and Florian Mayer (2016). Roger Federer won his 10th title in 2019.

The Swiss maestro stated: “We are going through difficult times, but we will emerge strengthened from it. I am already looking forward to returning to Halle next year. Stay healthy!”

Title sponsor extends contract

In the meantime, German company NOVENTI has extended its main sponsor contract with the tournament for another year through 2023. NOVENTI, based in Munich, combines a large number of separate individual companies as a holding company. These companies have an important thing in common: they are all active in the healthcare market. The core target groups are pharmacies, other service providers, care services, and physicians.

Tickets remain valid. In addition, ticket holders for the 2020 tournament receive 5 Euro vouchers, which can be redeemed at the NOVENTI OPEN Fanshop next year or for a selected event in summer 2021. For further information, please visit the tournament’s official website.
