#NextGenATP US-American Sebastian Korda booked his spot in the quarterfinals of the Open Quimper Bretagne Occidentale with another hard-fought win. The No. 2 seed of the €88,250 ATP Challenger Tour tournament battled past French qualifier Tristan Lamasine in three sets in his opening match and also had to go the distance against Mathias Bourgue of France on Thursday.
Korda sent down 12 aces and won 84 per cent of his first-service points to secure a 5-7, 7-6(2), 6-4 victory in two hours and 10 minutes. The 20-year-old Florida native will next take on Enzo Couacoud, who emerged victorious from the all-French encounter with wild card entry Evan Furness 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3 in two hours and 12 minutes.
In other action, Filip Horansky, who knocked out top seed Lucas Pouille in the first round, continued his good run of form with a 6-7(6), 7-5, 6-4 win over Maximilian Marterer of Germany. The The 28-year-old from Slovakia capitalized on four of his 13 break-point chances to prevail after two hours and 30 minutes. Up next for Horansky, who is seeking his second Challenger title following his maiden triumph in Meerbusch, Germany two years ago, will be Kacper Zuk. The qualifier from Poland upset last week’s Istanbul Indoor Challenger champion Arthur Rinderknech of France 7-6(2), 6-2.
In the remaining two quarterfinal matches, French wild card entry Constant Lestienne will take on Brandon Nakashima from the United States and Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi will oppose Illya Marchenko from the Ukraine.
