MARBELLA, April 3, 2021

Jaume Munar of Spain and Italy’s Gianluca Mager will go head-to-head in Sunday’s singles final of the AnyTech365 Andalucia Open ATP Challenger 80 event, held at the Club de Tenis Puente Romano in Marbella, Spain.

Munar edged out compatriot Mario Vielella Martinez 7-6(4), 7-5 in the stage of the final four on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the Costa del Sol. The No. 3 seed of the €44,820 clay-court event converted six of his nine break-point chances to seal victory in two hours and one minute.

Mager outlasts Giannessi

Earlier in the day on Estadio Manolo Santana, Mager emerged victorious from the all-Italian affair with Alessandro Giannessi, winning 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-1. The No. 4 seed from Sanremo struck eight aces and won 71 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after two hours and 16 minutes.

Munar, who only dropped one set on his way to the championship match, is seeking his seventh ATP Challenger career title, his second of the season following his triumph at the Club Megasaray Open I held at the Megasaray Tennis Academy in Belek, Antalya, Turkey.

Mager is bidding to lift his fourth Challenger trophy, his first since 2019. The 26-year-old Italian won the only previous meeting between the two, as Mager beat Munar en-route to his title win on home soil in Biella two years ago. The match will start at 12 noon local time.

Inglot/Reid take doubles title

In other action, Dominic Inglot of Great Britain and Australian Matt Reid captured the doubles title in Marbella. The top seeds fought past No. 2 seeds Romain Arneodo and Hugo Nys of Monaco 1-6, 6-3, 10-6. The encounter lasted one hour and 12 minutes.

By celebrating their first team title, Inglot and Reid split €2,670 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
