Mats Moraing from Germany and No. 8 seeded Frenchman Quentin Halys will compete in Saturday’s singles final of the €44,820 Internazionali di Tennis Città di Forli, held at the Circolo Tennis Villa Carpena Via Brando in Forli, Italy.

Moraing edged out seventh seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina 6-3, 7-5 on Friday afternoon. The 28-year-old Mülheim an der Ruhr native hit 11 aces, saved the only two break points he faced and capitalized on two of his own five break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 19 minutes.

“It was a very tough match. The second set was very close and I am happy with my performance today,” Moraing said. “My serve was key today. I also tried to keep focused and playing as many balls as possible.”

Halys defeats Elias

Later in the day, Halys defeated Portuguese veteran Gastao Elias 7-6(4), 6-4. The World No. 219 won 54 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in one hour and 37 minutes.

“I’m very happy. Elias is an excellent player, it was important to win the tie-break of the first set and then playing the second set with more confidence,” Halys said. “I love coming to Italy to play. I get along well with my teammates and with the public, who are really passionate about this sport. Each time is a special experience.”

Moraing is bidding for his third ATP Challenger career title following his triumphs on home soil in Koblenz 2018 and Amersfoort, Netherlands 2019. Halys could lift his fourth trophy, his first in three years. It will be the pair’s first meeting.
