TENERIFE, October 22, 2021
The semi-finals of the inaugural Tenerife Ladies Open are set, led by No. 4 seed Camila Giorgi. The World No. 36 from Italy cruised past Arantxa Rus from the Netherlands 6-1, 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the Abama Tennis Academy in Guía de Isora, a municipality in the western part of Tenerife.
Giorgi won 80 per cent of her first-service points, didn’t face a break point and broke her opponent’s serve five times to advance after only 61 minutes.
“The perfect match? Yes, I have played better than in the other rounds. I am very satisfied from all points of view, I am happy. Sometimes it is difficult for me to serve consistently and efficiently throughout the match but today I have succeeded and it has worked very well,” said Giorgi.
The Tenerife Ladies Open could be the last tournament of the season for the 29-year-old, who is having an incredible year crowned by her triumph at the WTA 1000 event in Montreal. ”I hope to finish well. Here I feel comfortable, both on and off the court, and I want to continue until the final. I have not yet decided if it will be the last tournament of the season. At the moment I am only thinking about the semi-final,” said Giorgi, who will next face Colombian teenager Maria Camila Osorio Serrano.
The 19-year-old continued her fine run of form with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Saisai Zheng of China. Osorio Serrano, who knocked out top seed Elina Svitolina in the opening round, capitalized on five of her 11 break-point opportunities to prevail after one hour and 43 minutes.

In the bottom half of the draw, Alize Cornet defeated Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova from the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-3 after one hour and 40 minutes.
“It wasn’t an easy match, it was a real battle,” said Cornet. “I have defeated a great player, I have had moments of extreme difficulty both when she served and when she received. The final part of the match was the most difficult, I was relieved to win.”
The World No. 66 from France also enjoys her time off the court. “I have visited Playa La Arena and Los Gigantes, two wonderful beaches that reminded me of my Nice. In Tenerife I feel at home,” Cornet said.
