The quarterfinals of the $52,080 Dove Men & Care – La Legión Florianopolis ATP Challenger Tour 80 tournament are set. Daniel Dutra da Silva rallied past No. 5 seed Nicolas Kicker of Argentina 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 on Thursday at the Lagoa Iate Clube in Florianopolis, situated in the South region of Brazil.
The 33-year-old home favourite, who captured his 24th career title on the ITF Pro Circuit in Lima, Peru earlier this season, converted five of his nine break-point chances to advance after two hours and 44 minutes.
“It was a really tough battle, because he was playing very well. I am happy that I got back into the match and took advantage of the chance I had,” said Dutra da Silva.
The World No. 391 from Sao Paulo will next take on No. 4 seed Juan Ignacio Londero. The 28-year-old Argentine eased past Johan Nikles from Switzerland 6-1, 6-4 in one hour and 23 minutes.
In other action, Colombian qualifier Nicolas Barrientos continued his good run of form this week with a 7-6(3), 6-1 victory over Argentine alternate Gonzalo Villanueva. The World No. 550 won 56 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 38 minutes.
Up next for Barrientos will be Genaro Alberto Oliveiri of Argentina, who defeated Brazilian Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida 6-1, 7-5. The encounter lasted one hour and 43 minutes.
