Despite being in the lead in the first set, 18-year-old wild card entry Hamad Medjedovic, champion of two ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments in Antalya, Turkey in the last two weeks lost in Tuesday’s opening round of the Serbia Open in Belgrade against fellow Serbian Laslo Djere 6-4, 7-5

“When it comes to the first set, I started the match well. I was not nervous, I was feeling excellent, I was first to win a break point, and I had 4-1. Then my tennis declined, Djere seized my chance, turned the match around and won,” Medjedovic told the media.
Before the Serbia Open, Djere played the semi-final at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech and the third round at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters but Medjedovic managed to play as a competitive rival during the entire match.
“This tells me I’m on the right track. I’m aware how good of a player like Djere is on this surface. It is a very good indicator for me. However, I have to work a lot more and improve my game so I hope I’ll have a better result next time,” Medjedovic said.
“I’m not sure about the next tournaments. We still haven’t made any decisions. In five weeks, I’ll play a Challenger in the Czech Republic. I was awarded a wild card into the main draw. However, I still haven’t decided whether I’ll play any tournaments before that,” the World No. 473 said about his upcoming tournaments.
