German youngster Henri Squire has reached his first semi-final on the ATP Challenger Tour. The 21-year-old Duisburg native rallied from a set down to overcome Evgeny Donskoy of Russia 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in his quarterfinal match at the Saturn Oil Open on a sunny Friday afternoon in Troisdorf.
Squire, who entered the main draw of the €45,730 clay-court event with a wild card, fired 11 aces and won 86 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 43 minutes. The World No. 342 will next take on Slovakian qualifier Lukas Klein, who upset fourth-seeded Frenchman Hugo Grenier 7-6(4), 6-3 in one hour and 55 minutes.
In the bottom half of the draw, Roman Safiullin defeated Frederico Ferreira Silva from Portugal 7-6(4), 6-3. The third-seeded Russian broke his rival three times to advance in one hour and 55 minutes. Safiullin will play Belgian Zizou Bergs in the stage of the last four. The World No. 200 edged out Dutchman Jelle Sels 6-3, 7-5. The encounter lasted one hour and 31 minutes.
