Mariano Navone headlined Saturday’s all-Argentine semi-finals line-up at the Challenger Corrientes as he knocked out World No. 175 Juan Pablo Ficovich, top seed of the $37,520 clay-court event, to reach his first championship match on the ATP Challenger Tour.

The World No. 519 converted six of his 13 break-point chances to secure a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 victory in two hours and 20 minutes.

In the bottom half of the draw, No. 2 seed Francisco Comesana rallied past Roman Andres Burruchaga 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. The World No. 285 from Mar del Plata won 53 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and 13 minutes.

Navone is bidding for his maiden crown on the Pro Circuit. Comesana, a two-time winner on the ITF World Tennis Tour in Villa Allende 2021 and Punta Cana earlier this season, could lift his first trophy on the Challenger Tour. He also won all of the three previous three meetings between the two Argentines.

In other action, two home favourites clinched the doubles title. Top seeds Guido Andreozzi and Guillermo Duran defeated Nicolas Alvarez of Peru and Murkel Dellien from Bolivia 7-5, 6-2 in one hour and 17 minutes.

By winning their ninth Challenger team title, Andreozzi and Duran split $2,000 in prize money and earned 50 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
