Three players booked their spots in the semi-finals of the inaugural €134,920 Finaport Zug Open on a rain-delayed Friday in Switzerland. Ernests Gulbis continued his fine run of form this week at the ATP Challenger Tour 125 clay-court tournament with a 6-1, 7-6(2) win over Dennis Novak of Austria.

The Latvian qualifier sent down four aces and converted three of his four break-point chances to succeed after one hour and 26 minutes. The 365th-ranked Gulbis, a five-time ATP Challenger Tour champion and former World No. 10, will next take on Dimitar Kuzmanov of Bulgaria. The 28-year-old from Plovdiv defeated Italian qualifier Lorenzo Giustino 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and six minutes.

Earlier in the day, Swiss teenager Dominic Stricker benefited from the retirement of Frenchman Harold Mayot in his second-round match. The 19-year-old lefty was leading 6-3, 4-5 when Mayot was forced to stop playing due a groin injury.

Stricker will now take on his compatriot Alexander Ritschard in his quarterfinal match on Saturday.
