Tennis fans all over the world will be turning to the US Open this month to watch some of the best players in the world compete in both men’s and women’s tournaments – which means many of us will be placing bets on our favourites to see if they can bring us home a bit of cash! Betting adds excitement to our favourite sports, and with tennis betting UK, you’ll have access to the best odds throughout the tournament and can keep track of your bets easily and in one place. Read on to find out which players are favourites in the US Open this year.
The US Open
The fourth and final Grand Slam tournament in the tennis calendar, the US Open begins on the 29th of August, where players will compete until the women’s tournament concludes on the 10th of September, and the men’s the following day on the 11th. The tournament is held in New York at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and is the place where Emma Raducanu won her first Grand Slam title last year. With big names like Novak Djokovic not taking part, it is all to play for in both the men’s and women’s tournaments – read on as we look at some of the favourites competing in The Big Apple this year.
The reigning champion Medvedev will be looking for a repeat performance of last year with Djokovic not being able to compete in the US Open. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see how the Russian performed at the previous Grand Slam, Wimbledon in July, as he was banned from competing – but with a fresh set of legs and more time to train, Medvedev is the favourite to beat in New York this month.
Djokovic isn’t the only threat that Medvedev faces in the US Open, the Spaniard that we all know and love, Rafael Nadal could pose a problem for the Russian. Nadal holds the title of being the greatest player when it comes to men’s Grand Slam tournaments and holds 22 titles in total. Currently ranked number 3 in singles, he could pose a threat to the men’s title this year.
Onto the women’s championship and Iga Swiatek is set to go for glory this month as the world’s current number one. The Polish national has a 37-match winning streak and has won three hard-court tournaments this season, standing her in good stead for her upcoming games. She is currently the favourite to take the woman’s championship, with 3/1 odds.
Currently seeded number 7, Helap won the Canadian Open earlier this month so could be a threat to Swiatek as the tournament gets underway. She is performing well this year, but with others like Naomi Osaka and Cori Guff competing in the singles tournament alongside her, it will be interesting to see how Simona Halep fairs against some of the greatest in the game. Halep’s odds currently stand at 500/1.
