Italy and Spain opened their Davis Cup Finals by Rakuten home campaign with wins on Wednesday.

The Italian squad, led by Matteo Berrettini, swept past Croatia 3-0 at the Unipol Arena in Bologna in Group A. The World No. 15 fought past Borna Coric 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-1. Earlier in the day, Lorenzo Musetti beat Borna Gojo 6-4, 6-2.

“It is the first time that I play as local in Italy with a full stadium,” said Musetti after the match. “It’s a feeling that I cannot describe with words. I have always dreamed about this and having won feels so good. My family was in the stands and that made it even more special.”
