Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo defeated countryman Facundo Diaz Acosta 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the championship match on Sunday to win the Challenger Dove Men+Care Coquimbo 2. The No. 2 seed of the $53,120 clay-court event in Chile capitalized on five of his 11 break-point chances to prevail after two hours and 23 minutes.

“I think it was a very difficult match, very close. I started very well and took the chance to win the first set. I didn’t take my chances in the beginning of the second set and Facu started to play better. However, he made a lot of mistakes at the beginning of the third set which helped me to win the match,” said Cerundolo.

By lifting his fifth ATP Challenger Tour career trophy, his second of the season following his triumph on home soil in Buenos Aires, the 20-year-old, who was born in Argentina’s capital city, earned $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

“I am really very happy and proud of my team. One more edition of the Dove Men + Care Challenger Coquimbo is completed and took place in front of a lot of spectators. Despite his hip problems, Cerundolo showed some impressive clay-court tennis,” tournament director Horacio de la Peña said.
